Gemini Overview & Plans

Gemini is Google's flagship AI assistant, accessible on the web at gemini.google.com, via mobile apps for iOS and Android, and built directly into Android devices and Google Workspace. It has evolved from a conversational chat tool into a full productivity platform with custom AI assistants, autonomous research, collaborative workspaces, music generation, and scheduled automation.

What Gemini Is

At its core, Gemini is a conversational interface on top of Google's most capable AI models. Unlike a raw API, the Gemini app handles conversation history, file uploads, image understanding, web search grounding, voice input, and cross-app integrations through a managed interface — no programming required.

Gemini targets a broad audience: casual users on Android devices using on-device Nano features, knowledge workers integrated with Google Workspace, researchers using Deep Research and NotebookLM, and developers experimenting via AI Studio or the Gemini API.

Plans and Pricing

Google offers four consumer/prosumer plan tiers as of 2025–2026, plus Workspace-bundled access for business and enterprise customers.

Free

Access to Gemini 2.5 Flash model, limited access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, limited Deep Research runs, Gemini Live voice conversations, Canvas, and Gems. Includes 100 monthly AI credits for video generation tools (Flow, Whisk). No credit card required. Sufficient for everyday tasks but usage limits are noticeable for heavy research work.

Google AI Pro — $19.99/month

Full access to Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 3 Pro, expanded Deep Research queries, Scheduled Actions, 2 TB Google One storage, early access to new Gemini features, and NotebookLM Plus included. First month free trial available. Covers the majority of professional and research use cases.

Google AI Ultra — $124.99/3 months

Everything in Pro plus access to Gemini 3 Deep Think (iterative multi-path reasoning for scientific/technical analysis), Veo 3.1 video generation, and the highest-tier model access. Positioned for power users and researchers requiring maximum capability.

Google Workspace Business & Enterprise

Gemini is bundled into all Google Workspace tiers since January 15, 2025. Business starts at approximately $20/seat/month; Enterprise at approximately $30/seat/month. Enterprise adds AI-translated meeting captions in 65+ languages, data classification and labelling, full model access, and admin controls over Connected Apps and data policies. NotebookLM Plus is included as a core service in Workspace Business and Enterprise from February 2025.
