ChatGPT Apps

ChatGPT is available across five platforms — web, iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows — with largely consistent feature sets and a few important platform-specific differences. All apps are free to download; your subscription plan determines which features are unlocked within each app.

Web (chatgpt.com)

The web app is the most fully featured ChatGPT surface and typically the first to receive new capabilities. It offers access to all models, Projects, Deep Research, image generation, file uploads, and a browser-based voice mode. Because it runs in any modern browser, it is the easiest way to access ChatGPT from any device without installing anything. The canvas feature for side-by-side writing and coding collaboration is also fully supported on web.

iOS (iPhone and iPad)

The iOS app maintains close feature parity with the web app and adds several mobile-native capabilities:

  • Advanced Voice Mode: Full real-time speech-to-speech conversation with the GPT-5 model. Available on Plus and above.
  • Apple Intelligence integration: On iPhone 16 and newer, Siri can route queries to ChatGPT for complex tasks. Users must opt in, and data is only sent when explicitly confirmed.
  • Branched chats (2025): Fork a conversation from any point, exploring alternative directions without losing the original thread.
  • All models and Projects: Full access to GPT-5 family, o3, o4-mini, Projects, and Deep Research on relevant plans.

Android

The Android app matches the iOS feature set closely:

  • Advanced Voice Mode: Available on Plus and above.
  • Default assistant: On Android builds that support it, ChatGPT can replace Google Assistant as the default system assistant, enabling long-press home button activation.
  • Branched chats (2025): Same fork-conversation capability as iOS.
  • All models and Projects: Full feature parity with iOS on supported plans.

Mac (macOS 14+, Apple Silicon)

The Mac desktop app provides system-level integration unavailable in the browser. Key notes for 2025–2026:

  • Advanced Voice Mode removed: As of January 15, 2026, Advanced Voice Mode was removed from the Mac app. OpenAI has not provided a public timeline for its return. Voice input remains available via the standard microphone dictation features of macOS, but the real-time speech-to-speech Advanced Voice Mode specifically is not available.
  • Projects and file uploads: Fully supported.
  • All models: GPT-5 family, o3, o4-mini — all available based on your plan.
  • System-level screenshot context: The Mac app can capture screenshots of your screen with permission, providing visual context for tasks like debugging or UI feedback.
  • Requires: macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) recommended for best performance.

Windows (Microsoft Store)

The Windows desktop app launched in 2024 and has continued to receive updates:

  • Advanced Voice Mode retained: Unlike the Mac app, the Windows app retains Advanced Voice Mode on Plus and above plans.
  • Windows system context: The app can integrate with Windows system context, potentially referencing what is on screen for tasks like code review and UI analysis.
  • Full features: All models, Projects, image generation, file uploads, and Deep Research — same as web and mobile.
  • Download: Available from the Microsoft Store or directly at chatgpt.com/download.
