Connected Apps
Connected Apps — previously called Extensions — lets Gemini read and act across your Google apps and enterprise tools. When enabled, Gemini can access your emails, calendar events, files, and tasks to provide contextual responses and take actions directly within those services. It became generally available on May 13, 2025.
Google Apps Integration
The following Google apps can be connected to Gemini through your account settings:
- Gmail: Gemini can read emails, summarise threads, draft replies, and answer questions about your inbox content.
- Google Drive: Search and read documents, spreadsheets, and presentations stored in your Drive.
- Google Docs: Open, read, and suggest edits to Docs files.
- Google Calendar: Read upcoming events, check availability, and add events based on email content or conversation.
- Google Keep: Access and create notes.
- Google Tasks: Read and create tasks.
Example usage: “Summarise all emails about the Q3 budget from last week” — Gemini searches Gmail, retrieves the relevant threads, and synthesises a summary without you having to manually find and copy any emails.
Enterprise Tool Integrations
For enterprise customers using Google Workspace, Connected Apps extends beyond Google's own services. Via Vertex AI Agent Builder and Workspace Studio (launched March 2, 2026), administrators can connect Gemini to:
- Salesforce — CRM data, deal summaries, customer activity
- SAP — ERP data, procurement, inventory
- Microsoft 365 — Outlook emails, SharePoint documents, Teams conversations
- BigQuery — Query structured business data with natural language
Workspace Studio
Workspace Studio, launched March 2, 2026, is a no-code agent builder that lets admins and users create AI agents that automate multi-app workflows. You describe what you want the agent to do — “every Friday morning, pull sales data from BigQuery, format a summary, and email it to the team” — and Workspace Studio configures the connected app triggers, actions, and Gemini instructions to make it happen. No programming required.
Privacy and Admin Controls
Google Workspace administrators have full control over which apps users can connect and what data Gemini can access. Context-aware access policies apply on the web version. Mobile admin policies remain more limited as of early 2026 — a known gap that Google has indicated is being addressed. For personal accounts, each Connected App must be individually enabled by the user in Gemini settings.
